A place to be still · Temple Quay

The Prayer Barge.

A narrowboat moored by Valentines Bridge, two minutes from Temple Meads, kept open as a quiet place to pray in the middle of Bristol's working day. In their own words, it exists so that “prayer fuels work and work becomes worship.” It isn't ours, and that's rather the point — we just think every builder in this city should know it's there.

Why we point founders here

Stillness, two minutes from the office.

Temple Quay is the most worked square mile in Bristol, and right in the middle of it someone has moored a boat and kept it quiet on purpose. They borrow the old Celtic idea of a “thin place” — somewhere heaven feels unusually close — and having sat on that boat, we wouldn't argue.

We send founders there because building is loud. A funding round, a hard hire, a quarter that isn't working — none of it gets quieter by gripping it tighter. The barge is where you can put the laptop down, pray about the work itself, and walk back across the bridge different. If you've read our about page, you'll see why we love them.

“May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands.”
Psalm 90:17 — the verse over the work
Ways aboard

Step aboard.

Three honest reasons to cross the bridge. Everything below happens with them, on their barge, via their site.

Go and be quiet

The boat is open for stillness — on your own, with others, or at one of their gatherings. Founders rarely get rooms with no agenda; this is one.
